1. The Grudge [Blu-Ray] (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though The Grudge aspires to be more than just the usual schlock, it doesn’t usually succeed. The movie is quirkier and more stylish than most, but it relies on too many stock scares and never pays off in a satisfying manner. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Bill Pullman. Sony, $9.99, 5/12/2009.

The movie is quirkier and more stylish than most, but it relies on too many stock scares and never pays off in a satisfying manner. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Behr. 3. Scooby-Doo [Blu-Ray] (2002)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While I don’t view Scooby-Doo as anything special, I must admit it offers a surprisingly entertaining little flick. The movie sags at times, but it features enough cheeky fun to work, especially due to some solid acting. Starring Linda Cardellini, Matthew Lillard. Warner, $14.99, 1/16/2007.

4. Scooby-Doo (2002)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I didn’t expect much from this light-hearted and silly cartoon caper, but I found it to offer a periodically clever and reasonably amusing little flick.

5. The Grudge: Unrated Extended Director's Cut (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I wasn’t wild about the theatrical cut of The Grudge, and nothing about this longer version made me like it more. In fact, the extra footage slows down an already sluggish story. As such, it’s not something I’d recommend to new viewers. However, if you’re a big fan of the flick, this DVD might be worth a look. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Behr.

6. Southland Tales: Limited Edition [Blu-Ray] (2006)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After the promise of Donnie Darko, Richard Kelly failed to create a fulfilling follow-up with Southland Tales. Rambling and dull, the movie flails despite an overqualified cast. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Arrow, $39.95, 1/26/2021.

7. Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although I kind of liked the original movie, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed almost totally falls flat. The film comes across as uninspired and tired, and it fails to capitalize on the prior flick’s positives. Starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar. Warner, $27.95, 9/14/2004.

8. Daphne & Velma [Blu-Ray] (2018)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A prequel that focuses on the Scooby-Doo series’ females, Daphne & Velma works better than one might expect, as it comes with occasional mirth and life. However, it lacks consistency and can seem too scattershot. Starring Sally Jeffery, Sarah Gilman. Warner, $24.99, 5/22/2018.

9. Buffy the Vampire Slayer [Blu-Ray] (1992)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Despite its immense genre-busting potential, Buffy the Vampire Slayer never quite hits the mark. While it occasionally entertains, it lacks consistency and doesn’t manage to connect as well as one might hope. Starring Kristy Swanson, Luke Perry. Fox, $19.99, 10/3/2017.

10. Scream 2 [4K UHD] (1997)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As a sequel to a semi spoof, Scream 2 encountered unusual challenges. It failed to surmount all of these, but it worked well enough to provide a mostly entertaining flick. Starring Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette. Paramount, $30.99, 10/4/2022.
